Flying to Russia as a (humanitarian) clown for the first time scared me. A hired-clown rode my tricycle at MY 3rd birthday party…I cried. When people describe how clowns scare them, I get it. And that’s why I became a clown. Like Bruce Wayne emerging from the bat-filled cave underneath his parent’s mansion, I hoped to bring joy to others (and myself) using ridiculous garb, a propellor hat & a yellow ukulélé that has since been dubbed ‘The Sukelélé.’ The ‘Clowning Around’ includes stories from a colourful and unexpected journey that taught me to embrace uncertainty, experiment continually, bounce back from failure, and marvel at the kindness of strangers.
Life is a game...and age is one way of keeping score. Scientists and alchemists are yet to discover the elixir of eternal youth (and Nicholas Flamel destroyed the philosopher's stone), but there remains a bucketload of evidence indicating that particular habits and lifestyle practices can keep us healthy and happy long into our later years. Aging is inevitable.Growing old is optional. This workshop is designed for older adults who are keen launch into the art of ageing well (games, laughter and creativity) and science of staying young (neuroscience, psychology and population studies).
After folding one thousand origami cranes, I have begun gifting them to people. It's a fun & simple way of celebrating the good things that people do. Each gifting is celebrated via Crane Blog (Facebook, Instagram & CraneBlog.Global). ‘Origami Army’ workshops teach people to fold origami cranes, and gift those cranes in celebration of the good things that people do - a way of focusing humanity on the everyday good deeds that are worthy of celebration.
Anti-Pain is the opposite of ‘pain.’ Anti-Pain is the adaptability, tranquility & growth that emerges when life is unpleasant, unpredictable or uncertain, and when we survive…no, not survive…when we thrive! The ‘Anti-Pain’ workshop blends the thesis of Sam’s physiotherapy Masters degree (that the word ‘pain’ may harm or help people in pain) with the refreshment of learning new bodily movements - intended to imbue participants with an ease of movement (and of mind) that encourages a life beyond pain…and life of Anti-Pain.
